Why pay for LiveClass when BigBlueButton is free?

BigBlueButton is free to license, not free to run. Once you count servers, TURN, recording storage, scaling for peak class times and someone on call, the comparison is closer than the licence cost suggests. If you have that capability in house, BigBlueButton is a good choice.

Can LiveClass be self-hosted?

No. LiveClass is managed. Enterprise customers can choose a media region, and dedicated capacity is available — but there is no self-hosted distribution.
